Description

Exemestane 25mg

Exemestane, sold under the brand name Aromasin among others, is a medication used to treat breast cancer. It is a member of the class of Anti-Oestrogens known as aromatase inhibitors. Exemestane is utilized to treat breast cancer in postmenopausal ladies. It is regularly given to ladies whose cancer has advanced considerably after a medical procedure, radiation, or other cancer drugs have been attempted without any progress. Exemestane also brings down the patients Oestrogen levels, which may slow the development of specific types of breast tumours that need Oestrogen to grow within the body.

Exemestane is not only used for the treatment of breast cancer, it is also sometimes used within the treatment of infertility. This works by stimulating a decreased negative feedback on the hypothalamic-pituitary axis, leading to increased FSH secretion and as a result, this stimulates ovarian follicle growth, which is important within the infertility treatment. The mechanism by which this works, shows that AIs are beneficial toward fighting infertility issues.

The Alternative to Clomiphene: Anovulation is responsible for 20% of female infertility. Although Clomiphene Citrate remains the first-line therapy for ovulation induction in anovulatory patients who are not Oestrogen-deficient and to treat unexplained infertility, there remains a discrepancy between ovulation and conception rates with its use. This is attributed to its Anti-Oestrogenic effects on cervical mucus and the endometrium. Alternative agents, including aromatase inhibitors, have been used and have not been associated with these side effects.

Recent medical studies have found that aromatase inhibitors may be safe and useful agents for ovulation induction in patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome, as well as a treatment option for superovulation in patients with either unexplained infertility or endometriosis. This leads to the conclusion that aromatase inhibitors may be an effective alternative treatment to Clomiphene Citrate for both ovulation induction and superovulation. Also, because Exemestane has a unique androgenic structure, the higher androgenic levels within the ovaries help to promote follicular growth and also help to subside infertility issues.

Since Exemestane has a unique androgenic structure, taking this medication also results in reduced bone loss. Bone loss can be treated or prevented with bisphosphonates, which inhibit osteoclast-mediated bone resorption, and thereby increase bone mineral density, reducing the risk of fracture. Although this is not used as the frontline medication, Exemestane helps to strengthen the bones and reduce the risk of such bone diseases such as osteoporosis.

Implications Associated with the Consumption of Exemestane: When consuming Exemestane for infertility purposes, Exemestane can cause birth abandons if still consumed after you have fallen pregnant. Before using this medication, it is important to take a pregnancy test to ensure that, for whatever reason, you are not pregnant before beginning to use this drug. If you have started to consume this medication and find out that you are pregnant, immediately stop the consumption of this medication and consult with your physician for further advice and to make sure that no implications have affected you in these early stages of pregnancy. Although, when using this product to start the ovulation process, it is highly unlikely that you will be pregnant. However, to be on the safe side always double check as you do not want any issues while attempting to achieve pregnancy and eventually the live birth of your foetus.

If you have taken Exemestane for some time and it has started your ovulation process and you fall pregnant, it is important that you stop the consumption of this drug immediately, as prolonged use once you are pregnant means that this medication can still be in your blood stream after a live birth and once you start to breast feed, this medication will be carried over to your child within your breast milk.

Some of the expected side effects associated with Exemestane are; hot flashes, male pattern baldness, joint, bone or muscle pain, tiredness, irregular perspiring, queasiness, diarrhoea, tipsiness, and an inconvenience in resting. If any of these issues occur, do not be alarmed but watch carefully and if these issues do not subside on their own, please see your physician. The more uncommon side effects are; severe shortness of breath, chest pain, coughing up blood, unexpected black outs, severe pain in the lower legs e.g. the calves, slurred speech, excess swelling (fluid on the legs) or severe cerebral pain. Again, do not let this alarm you, but it is important that while on any types of medications, you must monitor your body and any occurring symptoms. This is advised so that if any of these severe problems occur, you can spot them quickly and seek medical advice from your physician or local hospital.

Dosage of Exemestane: The advised dosage of Exemestane, is generally taken at one tablet (25mg) every day, after the consumption of food. It is advised to take the medicine simultaneously at the same time every day. If possible, it is advised that blood tests while taking this medication are advised and also, if you feel like this medication is having adverse effects or you feel diminished from taking this medication, it is advised to speak with your local physician to help resolve these issues. If these effects occur, please stop the consumption of this medication until you seek advice from your physician.

With the use of Exemestane, if you do not benefit and your ovulation process does not start while having no issues or adverse effects from this treatment, you can again start this consumption one month later with the higher dosage of two tablets (50mg) per day. This medication should be taken consistently throughout the days of 2-7 within your ovulation cycle period, to get the best advantage of the ovulation process taking place. It is advised that during this time, you should have regular intercourse, for the best chance of having an egg fertilised and becoming pregnant. Please be advised that you should purchase enough of this medication, so that you do not run out while trying to conceive, as this will break the cycle and reduce the amount of this medication being active within the blood stream.
